As a military wife, mother and full-time nurse, she has breezed her way through the online MBA program with grace. Despite major life events, such as military moves, career changes and a pregnancy, Noel has shown commitment and dedication to the program and passion for the degree. Her leadership abilities shine in the (virtual) classroom and she has undoubtedly left a lasting impression not only on fellow classmates, but also on the program as a whole. She certainly has a bright and successful career ahead.
Noel’s post MBA career plan: Before applying to the Flores MBA program, I understood business and I cared for patients. But, I wanted to have the degree to substantiate my desire to be someone bigger - an agent of change. Patients and nurses are customers of healthcare and have choices. My ideal career in project managment will involve making this choice easier and more fulfilling while eliminating, “because that’s the way we’ve always done it,’ habits.
Noel's description of the Online MBA experience: Being a military spouse, and moving frequently, attending a traditional classroom wasn’t an option for me. I also knew I wanted to be a Tiger and to not just wear Purple and Gold - so the Flores MBA program was perfect for me. The program has been flexible yet challenging. I’ve been able to coordinate my course load around busier times in my life, including the birth of my youngest son, a military move, and a job change. At the same time, the program pushed me to step outside of my comfort level. My advisors and professors have been extremely engaged and vested in my success. I even sought the counsel of Dr. Dana Hart, Director of Flores MBA program, when considering a recent job offer.

Ryan's description of the Online MBA experience: The MBA@Rice program has provided opportunities that don't exist in a conventional MBA program. one of the most powerful and unique of these attributes is that professors and class leaders are not required to be on campus or even Rice professors. We were able to have professors that are world-renowned experts in their field including professors from other highly prestigious MBA programs. It was apparent from the outset that Rice focused on the quality of the program over the quantity of students moving through. The caliber of students in my cohort and the fact that I was able to have classmates from all over the country including those serving in our armed forces is what makes a program like MBA@Rice so unique.

What makes Shawn a Business Leader of Tomorrow? When determining who would be our choice for Business Leader of Tomorrow, Shawn immediately came to mind for several in our program. Shawn is someone who is conscientious, hard-working, and exceptionally intelligent given his diverse background and skills both inside and outside of the classroom. In our Healthcare program, we have a highly qualified and diverse student population, so having someone stand out in that high quality of a group is quite impressive. As an avid learner, no matter what the topic, Shawn is respectful and engaging with all individuals he interacts with in order to increase his skills and add to his intellectual toolbox. We are proud that we will soon be able to call him an alumni and look forward to watching Shawn’s career continue to progress and improve the field of Healthcare.
Shawn’s post MBA career plan: Upon graduation I plan to transition into a global management consulting firm specifically focused on Healthcare Finance and amplify my impact in two specific ways: 1) applying the skills acquired in my MBA studies to client work, and 2) mentoring aspiring consultants. The MBA program has provided a holistic view of business and allowed me to build meaningful relationships through the thoughtful exchange of ideas with my peers. This holistic view of business and these long-lasting relationships will be extremely helpful as I apply my skills to a range of problems in a diverse portfolio of client engagements.
Shawn's description of the Online MBA experience: I have had an exceptional experience thus far attending the College of Business at West Texas A&M University online MBA program. The biggest concern I had going into an online program was whether the quality of education received would be the same online as that I would have received in-person in a classroom. However, I had no reason to be concerned as the format of the program is almost the same as the on-campus program, with the same faculty teaching both programs. The professors are devoted and go above and beyond to provide personalized attention to keep it engaging. The faculty responds promptly to questions and has always provided feedback and assistance when needed. I am amazed at the availability of their office hours. In many instances, they met with me directly to help with questions on subject material.
The program balances the leadership and management components along with the in-person aspects to allow everyone to engage freely and openly. When you attend an in-person class for a select period of time, you are entirely focused on that subject. However, with online learning, I have to manage multiple subjects in a limited time while also working full-time. The world and economy are adaptive and flexible. Modern technology has increased flexibility. Not only have I learned new skills from my academic studies, but I have also honed my time management and self-motivation skills with online learning. In this post Covid-19 world, these skills will be useful.
