The quality and quantity of Online MBA offerings has increased considerably over the years, thanks to the still growing demand for exceptional MBA programs with a distance-learning component. In the last few months alone, we discovered at least a dozen new options that may be completed entirely online or in hybrid format. Monfort College of Business and Daniels College of Business were among them. We broke news about these schools (and more) last quarter, so it’s time to move on to what’s new for Spring.
We are pleased to announce that Clemson University and Southern Oregon University have launched online alternatives to their top-ranked, on-campus MBA programs, and both schools are accepting applications now. Here you go.
Clemson University, College of Business – Greenville, South Carolina
The College of Business at Clemson University has announced the launch of an Online MBA Program that will open the door to students whose schedules don’t allow for classroom requirements. The new flexible, “learn from anywhere” option gives students the opportunity to complete coursework entirely online, either in a real-time, interactive setting, or through specially designed coursework they can access as their schedules permit.
Just days ago, Director of MBA Programs and Senior Associate Dean of the College of Business Greg Pickett explained that the model “allows students to consume their education in real time or on their own time. And the ‘own time’ lecture model isn’t simply a recorded version of the interactive, real-time lecture. It utilizes many digital components and instructional design learning supplements that give remote students a complete Clemson MBA experience.”
The program has been in technology testing and content building for 24 months, including technological upgrades to classrooms. Possible course offerings for the new program include Business Law, Decision Modeling, Financing & Accounting, Marketing Foundations, and Statistics. Students may also have the option to focus in a specific area by through elective courses. Current offerings for the on-campus program include Entrepreneurship & Innovation Management, Services Science, and Supply Chain & Information Management, to name a few.
The Clemson COB Online MBA Program will make its official debut in the fall of 2019.

The school’s first entirely online accelerated degree “can theoretically be completed entirely remotely,” says the Mail Tribune. “Students can stop and resume classes at their own pace and go in the order they like; and the classes themselves are only seven weeks long, three weeks shorter than traditional 10-week classes.” The flexibility of the program means that students with full-time jobs, non-residents, and those who may need to “pause and resume their education,” can now earn a top-ranked MBA on their own schedule.
The SOU Online offering is a General MBA that requires 45 credit hours to graduate. Sample core courses include Information Systems, Legal and Ethical Issues in Business Management, and Strategic Operations Management. Students must take at least three elective courses as well. Sample courses include Internet Marketing and eCommerce, Using GIS in Business, and Marketing Channels Management and Pricing History, to name a few. This new, accelerated program can be completed in as few as 16 months.
Students who would like to focus in a specific area have several options including concentrations in Accounting, Business Analytics, and Marketing. Like the General MBA, these online programs consist of 45 credit hours of study, which can be completed in as few as 16 months.
